Straight Run Policy

Last Updated: August 2026

Unless specifically advertised otherwise, chicks sold by Atlas Palm Hatchery are sold STRAIGHT RUN.

What Does Straight Run Mean?

Straight run means chicks are sold without a guarantee of sex.

You may receive:

  • Males
  • Females
  • Or any combination of the two

There Is No Guaranteed Ratio

Straight run does not mean 50% male and 50% female.

Even when purchasing several chicks, natural probability can produce substantially more males or more females in an individual order.

For example, purchasing six straight-run chicks could result in six females, six males, three of each, or another combination.

No Sex Guarantee

Unless a listing specifically states that a bird is being sold as sexed or provides a written sex guarantee, observations about a young bird's comb, behavior, feather development, coloring, stance, or other characteristics are opinions only.

Roosters

Customers purchasing straight-run poultry must be prepared for the possibility of receiving roosters.

Please check local ordinances, HOA rules, landlord requirements, and other restrictions before purchasing.

Atlas Palm Hatchery cannot refund or exchange a healthy bird simply because it later develops into a rooster.

Breeding Projects

Sex-linked characteristics may occasionally allow certain chicks to be identified by sex. If a particular cross has this capability, it will be specifically stated in that product listing.

Otherwise, project chicks are straight run just like our other unsexed poultry.

Why We Sell Straight Run

Many specialty, heritage, rare, crested, and project poultry cannot be reliably sexed at hatch without specialized genetic characteristics or invasive/professional methods.

Rather than make promises we cannot reliably keep, Atlas Palm Hatchery sells these chicks honestly as straight run.

If you purchase straight run, plan for roosters. If you get exactly the ratio you hoped for, consider that a little hatch-day luck. 🐣
